Approaching the building
Service animals shall be kept at the handler’s side and should be relieved prior to entering.
While in the restaurant
When waiting to be served the dog should be under control and sitting at the handler ‘s side and not drawing attention to itself.
The dog should rest in a laying down position while under the table. A booth to accommodate the dining party is preferable to a table in the middle of the restaurant. Eating off a plate or from the table is strictly forbidden, due to health codes. Neither food nor water should be provided to the dog while inside the building. Exceptions to this (i.e. water bowl) may be done in an outdoor setting if allowed by the restaurant. Remember that the health codes still apply to the restaurant, the ADA just makes an exception to allow the dog in the building to assist you; every effort should be made to ensure compliance with hygiene and public safety laws.
The service dog should remain settled under the table, calm and unobtrusive.
